Requirement:
"Our company provides financial consulting services. We’ve created our own
testing methods and applications that are a part of our recruitment and
performance management strategies. Some of these tests are pre-employment tests
while others are for performance evaluation. Our Human Resources division uses
these applications extensively. Sometimes, even managers in other departments
use them for evaluating team members.
What we want to do is to automate these applications and put them on the web.
We’d like to operate these tests from a common platform and at the same time
establish customized access to different users and also ensure that the web
application created is secure and private."
Solution Proposed
This scenario is a general one and can be attributed to any company. Let's
discuss the solution we provide.
Your employees are your most important resource. They are
your biggest asset when you are driving your business towards new goals and
territories. And it is therefore, imperative that you have the right people in
the right positions at all times. With this web application, you can take the
hassle out of the recruiting process and track their performance and skills in
a more efficient manner.
The web application will contain the set of tests created
and allow users to log in and access the different tests and reports generated.
The application allows the administrator to create tests that can be entered
into an existing test battery. Each test contains a set of instructions, sample
questions and actual questions with answers, which are displayed before the
test actually begins. The administrator specifies a time limit for each
question within a test (optional) and for each test within the battery. A skip
option may be provided for a question. A question could also be made mandatory
if necessary. The administrator could also specify the sequence in which the
questions would be displayed. Answers to a question can be assigned factors and
points.
We will develop the web-based test-taking application,
which will allow an administrator on the site to select a battery of tests and
process the same depending on a selected sequence of tests. Every test in the
test battery would have its own time line, instructions and examples associated
with it respectively.
Role management
The test taking application allows for role management between administrator,
developer, applicant, recruiter and manager. The administrator can login and
create batteries of tests and allow applicants to register. Recruiters or
managers can use the application to test selected candidates and even track the
performance of past test takers.
These roles can be changed as per the need. For example,
in the case of a performance appraisal system within an organization, the roles
of mentors, employees and peers can be clearly defined.
Testing requirements
The administrator logs on to the web and creates a battery of tests as
described above. The administrator types in the applicant’s information and
checks if he or she has already taken the test. The password for the applicant
is sent via email after which the applicant can take the test from the testing
center.
Testing process
Once the applicant logs in with his name, address and email id, he receives a
set of instructions that help him understand the test and how it’s done.
Instructions per test vary. The timer option for tests can even be set to zero
(no time limit) and the skip button gives an option to skip questions that can
be recycled later at the end of the questionnaire.
Multimedia clips and images can be attached to the
questions and instructions while the questioning can be customized to the
manner in which the user answers the questions. For example, if a question is
difficult for a particular user, he is then taken to a question with a slightly
lesser degree of difficulty if necessary. All the above options are not
compulsory and the entire testing procedure can be customized to suit the user
Reports
Every applicant receives a set of narrative and graphical reports. At any point
of time a manager or recruiter can access these reports based on his or her
particular requirements.
